Salesforce.com’s plan for opulent campus a costly debacle

” ‘The rule is somebody builds a big shrine to themselves and that usually is the end of the company,’ said David Rudow, senior equity analyst with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a not-for-profit financial services firm . . .”

Hehe. C. Northcote Parkinson said pretty much the same thing in his 1957 Parkinson’s Law, and Other Studies in Administration.

What Jamie Dimon didn’t tell you on ‘Meet the Press’

JPMorgan doesn’t understand how to manage risk.” Ok, but why is that? The answer is not too complicated: for over forty years, all the big Wall Street firms have been publicly owned. As a result, when they make money, the executives get huge bonuses; and when they lose money, the owners (i.e., you, your mutual fund, your pension plan) lose money. Thus the incentive to make big risky bets is irresistible.

Kansas lawmakers pranked by Internet hoax

Someone told state legislators in Kansas that they were in danger of being taken over by Sharia law. Like that could happen in a legislature where Republicans hold a supermajority in both houses. But the Kansans got suckered good and have passed a law to ban Sharia in their state. Someone should tell them about the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide.

House votes to protect sales of rifles to Mexican drug cartels

The ATF has issued a new rule that multiple sales of high-powered rifles in border states must be reported to the federal government. The rule would reveal which American dealers are most active in the deadly business of shipping arms to murderous Mexican drug dealers.

The gun-nut wing of the House, apparently thinking that the “right to bear arms” somehow means the “right to sell arms to any bloodthirsty foreign thug who comes calling,” crafted a measure to block the new rule and stuck into a budget bill. The Republicans  who voted to do that can Bite Me. But the insane Democrats who supported them can double Bite Me.

US priests are reportedly behind Vatican crackdown on nuns

“David Gibson, a Religion News Service correspondent, said the crackdown shows that concerns about poverty and economic inequality are taking a backseat in the church. ‘There’s so much riding on the gay marriage battle, and on abortion rights, and on contraception that [bishops] want everybody in the church to be doubling down on those issues and not being distracted by social justice,’ Gibson told msnbc.com.

“Bishops have been playing defense for years in the wake of the church’s sexual abuse crisis, and Gibson said they’ve been looking for issues on which they can reassert their moral authority.”

Speaker John Boehner wants to take focus off of gay marriage. Mitt says, “Fat chance!”

House Speaker John Boehner is desperate to get attention off of gay marriage. While it was a nifty way to raise funds and stir up the core of the Republican Party, when it comes to getting the votes of undecided voters, it stinks. Unfortunately, Boehner’s candidate, Mitt Romney, went off message at a campaign stop in Oklahoma City yesterday. “I have the same view that I’ve had since running for office . . . my view is that marriage itself is a relationship between a man and a woman” quoth the Mitt.

Anti-Abortion Kansans get fat on abortion proceeds

In New York, they balance the state budget by running lotteries, as well as taxing casinos, liquor and cigarettes. The clever state fathers in Topeka are going even further and levying a new luxury tax on abortions and abortifacient medications.

Reminds me of the late 90’s when the Federal government owned the Mustang Ranch. Way to go Kansas!
