Catholic League President celebrates defeat of Child Victims Act

In a vitriolic message emailed to his supporters, Catholic League President Bill Donohue celebrated the defeat of the Child Victims Act that would have made it easier for kid sex abuse victims to seek justice. He blasted the legislation as ”a vindictive bill pushed by lawyers and activists out to rape the Catholic Church.”

There are reasonable arguments to be made both in favor and against extending the statute of limitations in such cases, but Donohue can bite me.

Why all true Americans hate Pope Francis

Pope Francis When Pope Francis goes around comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable, it just gets my goat. Like any patriotic American, I believe in the American Dream of wealth and fame. If we could just give free enterprise a real chance in this country, we would all be rich like Donald Trump or Kim Kardashian. But Francis wants jack-booted thugs to seize our homes and give them away to the lazy Mexicans who have already taken all our jobs. He’s probably not even a Catholic. Remember how he washed the feet of that Muslim girl? Would a real Catholic do that? I don’t think so. I heard he’s not even Italian. Weird, isn’t it? If you don’t believe me, listen to Alex Jones’s radio program.

Scalia Forms Search Committee for New Pope

According to the New Yorker magazine, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said today that he was forming an “independent search committee” to select a new Pope.

I’m sorry it had to come to this. The Pope said he doesn’t want to speak out against abortion and gay marriage. Well, sorry, my friend, but that’s the entire job description. You should have thought of that before you let them blow that white smoke in Rome.

Rep. Steve King sets Pope Francis straight

Abortion and gay marriage? Yes. Inequality and climate change? No.

Iowa Congressman Steve King has explained what Pope Francis should talk about when he addresses Congress today:

I’m hopeful that Pope Francis will speak to these two issues: One is the church’s unfailing and steadfast opposition to abortion, the position that life begins at the moment of conception and it ends at natural death, and the dignity of every human person. That’s a position of the Roman Catholic Church that’s really unassailable and I’m hopeful that that position will be reiterated from the floor of Congress next week. I’m looking forward to that. Second component that is so strong among the Catholic Church is the position of marriage, and it being between a man and a woman.

King is an idiot.

Catholic Church still protecting sordid priests

Rev. Matthew Riedlinger quizzed his texting partner about sex videos, pressed for details about intimate liaisons, described sexual acts and encouraged mutual masturbation. He also repeatedly asked to meet.

The Church knew but kept it hidden until the local newspaper started asking questions.

Catholic Church Considering Jerry Sandusky as Next Pope

The Catholic Church is considering tapping convicted child rapist Jerry Sandusky as its next pope, The Daily Currant can reveal.

According to sources inside the Vatican, the Church believes the unorthodox move would aggressively rebut the “political correctness” of “secular elites” who in recent years have dared to challenge the institution’s rich tradition of systematically protecting child predators from justice.

I believe this is the first I’ve heard of The Daily Currant. These guys are so good, I’m considering retiring and leaving the snarky coverage of the news to them.

US priests are reportedly behind Vatican crackdown on nuns

“David Gibson, a Religion News Service correspondent, said the crackdown shows that concerns about poverty and economic inequality are taking a backseat in the church. ‘There’s so much riding on the gay marriage battle, and on abortion rights, and on contraception that [bishops] want everybody in the church to be doubling down on those issues and not being distracted by social justice,’ Gibson told msnbc.com.

“Bishops have been playing defense for years in the wake of the church’s sexual abuse crisis, and Gibson said they’ve been looking for issues on which they can reassert their moral authority.”

Ryan Says Catholics Can Choose Which Church Teachings to Follow

U.S. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan thinks Catholics — or at least he — can choose which Church teachings to follow. And he’s probably right. After all, politicians are denied Communion for supporting the right of non-Catholics to have abortions, but the Church doesn’t punish politicians who commit a wide variety of sins or who support other policies in contravention of Catholic doctrine.

Ted Kennedy widow disinvited as commencement speaker over her ‘apparent’ beliefs

Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass., withdrew their invitation to Victoria Kennedy to speak at their spring commencement after being told by Worcester Bishop Robert J. McManus that Kennedy was not an appropriate choice, because of her position on “the dignity of life from conception and the sanctity of marriage.”

Susie Madrak writes: “Isn’t that special? Once again, the conservative American Catholic leadership selectively brings its position to bear on any Catholic who opposes their highly-politicized positions on abortion, birth control and gay rights — in this case, Vicki Kennedy, widow of Senator Ted Kennedy . . .

“I will say this until I am blue in the face: Until we see the day that Catholic bishops also publicly embarrass politicians who vote for unjust wars, capital punishment or against the rights of workers to unionize things which are ALSO Catholic teachings, we know that they are nothing more than hypocritical sacks of lard.”
