God Almighty endorses Maine Family Planning!

When this year’s fundraising at Maine Family Planning came up short, the Christian Civic League of Maine declared that its prayers had successfully defunded abortion in Maine.

But God was mightily pissed at the pride shown by the opponents of women’s reproductive freedom and chose to send them a sign. The sign came in the form of more donations to the feisty family planners, eventually surpassing their goal by 20%.

As it says in Psalms, Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.”

Indiana Governor Pence Insists New Law Has Nothing To Do With Thing It Explicitly Intended To Do

Addressing the controversy surrounding his state’s recently signed Religious Freedom Restoration Act, Indiana governor Mike Pence forcefully insisted to reporters Monday that the new law has nothing at all to do with what it was explicitly intended to do. “Let me state directly that in no way is this law designed to allow the kind of anti-gay discrimination that is the law’s single reason for existing,” said Pence, emphasizing that provisions authorizing businesses to refuse service to gay customers were nothing more than the only explanation for the law being drafted in the first place. “Regardless of the widespread misconceptions surrounding it, I want to reassure Hoosiers of all backgrounds that this law will never be interpreted in the way it was unambiguously designed to be from the very beginning.” Pence further clarified that the act’s sole purpose was in fact to safeguard the free exercise of religion it was in no way whatsoever created to protect.

Lutheran Mark Born Proposes Abolishing the Sabbath for Wisconsin Workers

Lutheran Mark Born of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, has proposed a bill to let factory and mercantile workers “voluntarily choose” to waive the state requirement of at least one “day of rest in seven.”

When asked whether that would violate the Bible, Born said, “The Bible is for pussies.”

If you’re a wingnut it’s ok to ignore the law but if you’re a progressive church, you could be in big trouble.

In an unusual move, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is calling on states to ignore a directive from the Obama administration to cut greenhouse gas pollution from coal-fired power plants.

Baptist leaders in Texas are speaking out against Senate Bill 185, which they claim will force them to violate biblical injunctions about welcoming strangers, Baptist News‘ Ken Camp reports.

The bill, introduced by Republican state Senator Charles Perry, would eliminate “sanctuary cities” where local government and law enforcement agencies, as well as religious organizations, openly violate immigration laws. The bill would ban the adoption of “a rule, order, ordinance, or policy under which the entity prohibits the enforcement of the laws of this state or federal law relating to immigrants and immigration.”

Oklahoma state Rep. Todd Russ wants to take government out of the marriage business

Republican Oklahoma state Rep. Todd Russ, often thought of as an anti-gay blithering idiot, has finally come to his senses and introduced House Bill 1125 to get the state government out of the marriage business altogether.

The move stunned marriage equality advocates nationwide because it’s the first piece of legislation to embody what many have long been seeking: an end to the entangling of government and church in the sacrament of holy matrimony.

Under the Russ bill, judges won’t perform marriages and county clerks won’t issue marriage licenses. The ceremonies will be performed by clergy of the various faiths, who will then file a declaration with the county clerk. Those who choose to avoid clergy participation can simply file an affidavit of common law marriage with the county clerk.

Thanks to the enlightened Todd Russ, the Sooner State will not be known just for racist fraternity chants, but instead for leading the country toward a day when all people will be able to marry regardless of religion or sexual orientation.

Noted atheist reveals his secret religious side

Richard Dawkins has had his “come to Jesus” moment. In an interview with Internet content provider Television Four, Dawkins admitted:

“Science requires a suspension of common sense,” he concluded, “because it’s very far from common sense.”

Since atheists often say that faith is the suspension of common sense, it’s clear that Dawkins truly understands the difficulty of differentiating science from religion.

De Blasio kisses right-wing rabbi’s hand, capitulates on regulation of dangerous circumcision method

Some right-wing Jewish groups practice metzitzah b’peh (MBP), the oral sucking of the blood from the baby’s penis, by the mouth of the ritual circumcisor.

The problem with the practice is that, if the circumcisor has herpes, it can be transmitted to the baby. Babies infected this way can — and have — suffered brain damage and death.

Regulating the practice is difficult because of the secretive and insular nature of the groups that practice it. But De Blasio has decided against even trying, allegedly because of the political support he has received from the groups that practice MBP.

As for kissing the rabbi’s hand, that’s not a figure of speech, De Blasio really did it.

NB: Most other circumcisions are perfectly sanitary and pose no risk.

Scott Walker tells reporters he ‘doesn’t know’ if Obama is a Christian

Walker says: “You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that. How [could] I say if I know either of you are a Christian?”

So let’s ask Walker:

  1. When did you learn that Marco Rubio is a Christian?
  2. When did you learn that Mitt Romney is a Christian?
  3. When did you learn that Jeb Bush is a Christian?
  4. When did you learn that Mike Huckabee is a Christian?

Later, somebody by the name of Jocelyn Webster claimed that the governor had been misunderstood. “Of course the governor thinks the president is a Christian,” she announced. That’s nice, but I won’t believe it until I hear it from Walker himself.
