AJOTSCOTUS Scalia can Bite Me

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Antonin Scalia thinks the State of the Union is a “childish spectacle.” I mean, if it was so important, the Founders would have put it in the Constitution, right? [quoting from Above the Law]

Losing Supreme Court justices go on the warpath against Roberts

It seems that Chief Justice Roberts changed his mind on the Affordable Care Act, and that justices in the minority retaliated by leaking to the media.

According to Felix Salmon at Reuters, “. . . it seems very much as though the more partisan Republicans within the Supreme Court have in this case behaved more like politicians than like jurists. . . .”

In spite the the Supreme Court’s tradition of secrecy, “. . . we’re now seeing these coordinated and perfectly-timed leaks from within the Court, detailing information known only to the justices themselves. The conservative justices are leaking, and although [CBS News reporter Jan] Crawford talks about ‘law clerks, chambers’ aides and secretaries’ who have been gossiping internally about Roberts’s change of mind, it’s pretty clear that her sources were impeccable and that if they weren’t the conservative justices themselves, they were sources who had the explicit consent of those justices to start talking to the press.”

Supreme Court justices telling tales out of school? Eeeew.

Law Prof Calls Justice Scalia an ‘Intolerable Blowhard’

Writing about the recent Arizona v. United States Supreme Court decision, University of Colorado law professor Paul Campos says: “Scalia, who 25 years ago had a certain gift for pointing out the blindness and hypocrisy of certain versions of limousine liberalism, has in his old age become an increasingly intolerant and intolerable blowhard: a pompous celebrant of his own virtue and rectitude, a purveyor of intemperate jeremiads against the degeneracy of the age, and now an author of hysterical diatribes against foreign invaders, who threaten all that is holy. . . . Scalia seems headed down the path previously trod by those justices who clearly didn’t know when to hang up their robes.”

Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin also weighed in: “After twenty-five years on the Court, Scalia has earned a reputation for engaging in splenetic hyperbole—but he outdid himself this time.”

Justice Scalia lays out the justification and methodology of “Textualism”

In a further effort to leave his stamp on future jurists, Justice Scalia has written another book about his “originalist” theory of constitutional interpretation. Personally, I think he’s full of shit, but I invite others to weigh in.

Texas judge tries to get defense lawyer arrested on fake charges; receives slap on wrist

Texas justice of the peace J. Kent Adams made racist comments — like asking a black mother if she was on welfare and expected the government to pay her fine. And Adams called defense attorney Henry Nguyen “boy” and told him that the school records Nguyen subpoenaed to defend his client were “none of his (expletive) business.”

That’s just Adams being a dick.

But after Nguyen complained to the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct, judge Adams tried to persuade a prosecutor to sign an affidavit saying Nguyen’s claims were false and tried to pressure another prosecutor to file perjury charges against Nguyen.

Abuse of his office earns Adams a “Bite Me.” But when the State Commission on Judicial Conduct merely issues a public admonishment — the lowest form of public punishment the Commission can levy — they can Bite Me, too.

NY judge Luis Gonzalez turned his Appellate Division court into a patronage mill — state Commission on Judicial Conduct gives him a pass

From the Daily News: “When an early-retirement program produced 25 administrative openings, almost every one went to buddies and kinfolk. [Judge] Gonzalez okayed a half-dozen well-paying jobs for people who had family ties to his chamber, never mind that some lacked the published qualifications for the posts. . . .

“Gonzalez managed or enabled all this by dismantling a reformed hiring process put in place by his predecessor. Under that system, job openings were publicly posted for the first time. A panel of senior career employees passed on the qualifications of applicants. Gonzalez dropped the listings and the panel.”

In addition, the New York Law Journal wrote that Gonzales “had simultaneously claimed two primary residences, including a rent-stabilized apartment in the Bronx, benefiting from both the tax advantages of home ownership and the advantages of rent stabilization.”

They can all Bite Me: Gonzalez for being a pig. Governor George Pataki for putting him on the Appellate Division, First Department bench. Governor David Paterson for elevating him to Presiding Justice. And the Commission on Judicial Conduct for letting him get away with it.

“Judicial restraint” my ass

“The Supreme Court’s conservative justices said Wednesday they are prepared to strike down President Obama’s healthcare law entirely.”

The gummint can force me to buy auto insurance just to drive my damn car. They can make me pay taxes for their idiot wars. They can dictate healthcare decisions (I can get an abortion if I submit to a vaginal sonogram). They can take and keep my DNA for damn near forever. But, thanks to the guys in the black robes, they can’t make me buy health insurance. Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we’re free at last!

Santorum: Gingrich is right

Hello again folks, the Hounds are out for blood again. As you loyal readers know, we here at Biteme.me rarely let slip the Hounds of Hell. We only let me out of my cage when something particularly egregious happens.

“What brought out the Hounds this time?” you ask? Ah, allow me to enlighten you.

Rick Santorum, in his long established goal of trying to sound like as much of a deluded psychopath as his opponent Newt Gingrich, has decided that the best way to achieve this goal is to agree with Newt on various topics. In this case, Santorum has decided to join Gingrich in flipping the bird at the Supreme Court.

How might this be “flipping the bird”, as your author has stated, you ask? Ah. Well, if you take your history lessons seriously, you’ll recall that the Supreme Court established the Separation of Church and State. The term originated in the courts and Santorum would like to shove the whole kit-and-kaboodle off a cliff.

Santorum seems to be under the impression that when Kennedy said that he didn’t want the President’s religion to concern the public, he meant “government crush religion!” I’m really at a loss here. You see, the point is not that you, as a citizen are not allowed to be religious, or even to let religion influence your daily decisions; the rule is that the government can’t do that.

So, to (thankfully) ex-Senator Santorum (may-you-never-be-Preisdent-of-this/my-country), I offer you our most hearty bras d’honneur: Bite me!
