Gov. Christie gloats over veto that never happened

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie claims he stopped Assembly Democrats from raising the gas tax by $2.4 billion: “(Assembly Democrats) wanted to raise the gas tax by $2.4 billion. We said no to that….They’re down on the ground. They’re sweating. They’re twitching. It’s ugly, ‘cause I keep saying no.”

The bill would have raised taxes, but would probably have SAVED the taxpayers money because it would have reduced state borrowing. And, oh yeah, it died in committee. So Christie can Bite Me!

Bristol Palin sued for defamation (and we’re taking her side in this)

According to the Daily News, Stephen Hanks called Sarah Palin a “whore.” Sarah’s daughter, Bristol, asked him if he’s gay. Some more insults followed, culminating in a $75,000 federal lawsuit by Hanks for defamation. I’d say what I think of him, but he’d sue me, so I’ll just say, “bite me!”

Looks like Las Vegas attorney got caught by advance fee scam

‘In October 2009, [Las Vegas attorney Stanley] Walton said the Mexican bonds were worth $113 million.

‘ “The main problem with getting the proposed platform to generate income is that the Mexican government would not provide the platform with the information on the location of the gold reserves to support the trading of the gold Mexican bearer bonds,” Walton told the state Bar at the time.

‘Calls seeking comment from Walton were not returned.’

Straight talk about public employee benefits

“The simple truth is this: Folks who voted for [Scott] Walker don’t necessarily hate unions or public employees. Ordinary, compassionate people are simply tired of seeing public services cut so that government employees can receive far more generous compensation and job security than the rest of us. Raising taxes is always an option, but that just means these folks expect bigger pay increases. . . .

“There are Democrats who want a strong social safety net and a level playing field for all citizens and are dutifully paying taxes to receive those benefits, but are seeing decreasing returns because so little is left of the pie once public employee obligations are removed. Their votes weren’t bought by the Koch brothers in Wisconsin, or San Jose or San Diego.”

_The Atlantic_ predicts future — after the fact

According to Alexander Abad-Santos in The Atlantic “it was only a matter of time before robbers got hip to how valuable these [cell phone storage] trucks or rather, the stuff that these trucks were storing, can be.”

Oh just bite me already. If you’re such a bleeping Nostradamus, why didn’t you tell us BEFORE it happened?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. warned wife’s family but they told him to buzz off

We normally don’t dish much celebrity gossip (maybe we’d have more than three readers if we did), but this one qualified for a BiteMe:

According to the NY Daily News, Robert F Kennedy, Jr., sent an email to wife Mary’s family after one of their dust-ups, saying “Mary is a wonderful, generous, kind, and wise person but depression and illness are now killing her. I know you have told me that her frequent suicide threats are not real. I do not believe this is accurate. I see her now sinking into a terrible darkness. She desperately needs a family intervention.”

Newsweek says, ‘By then, family bitterness was so deep that her brother, Thomas Richardson, told him to stop sending such emails and threatening to embarrass him publicly if he persisted.’

Same paper, same day, same page, different reporter said that names of sexual abuse victims were not “disclosed because the ultra-Orthodox community would intimate and ostracize victims.”

So sad, so sad.
