Ask the Bitemaster

Dear Bitemaster: Where can I go and shoot off my pistol in a church without getting in trouble?

Answer: Get thee to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, PA. But keep in mind that

  1. The gun must be legal
  2. You must try to hide the gun after you fire it
  3. You must fire immediately before or after genuflecting.

Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil makes sense

Quote

“This is rural Nevada, and every home has a gun. My biggest concern [about teens escaping from the local juvenile rehabilitation center] is one of these kids will go into a house at 2 a.m., and there will be a farmer or a rancher there — and we’ll have a fatal shooting. In Nevada, that would be a justifiable homicide, but nobody wants to see that,” he added.

Oregon man robbed of his gun . . .

Perhaps he could have defended himself if he had been armed.

Twenty-one-year-old William Coleman III of Gresham was standing and talking to his cousin when another man approached him and asked for a cigarette.

The man asked Coleman about his weapon, a Walther P22 pistol. He then pulled a pistol from the waistband of his pants, pointed it at Coleman and said, “I like your gun. Give it to me.”

Coleman did as he was told and the man then fled on foot.

Former NYC Mayor Bloomberg Plans $50 Million Challenge to the N.R.A.

Regular reader of Biteme.me know in what high regard we hold Michael Bloomberg. Nevertheless, when he offers to put $50 million behind a project, we sit up and listen.

Well, that’s what he’s promised to do with his gun control crusade.

Bloomberg said that gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda — even Democrats whose positions otherwise align with his own.

Bloomberg’s blueprint reimagines the way gun control advocates have traditionally confronted the issue. Rather than relying so heavily on television ad campaigns, Mr. Bloomberg will put a large portion of his resources into the often-unseen field operations that have been effective for groups like the N.R.A. in driving single-issue, like-minded voters to the polls.

But all is not sweetness and light: Democratic leaders argue that Bloomberg threatens to hand control of the Senate to Republicans, which they say would doom any hope of passing gun control legislation.

Toddlers Killed More Americans Than Terrorists Did This Year

It’s true and Stacie Borrello actually dug up the numbers: four deaths from domestic terrorism, eleven killed by kids age six and under.

The bleeding heart liberals will say that we need more restrictions on guns, but your Bitemaster thinks the problem isn’t the guns but the people who misuse them.

Killers — regardless of age — must be prosecuted for their crimes. Let’s have no more of this coddling of tiny criminals.

Screwed in the Senate but not in the Electoral College

According to Ronald Brownstein in the National Journal, background checks for gun purchasers may never pass in the Senate because of the number of Senators from small, conservative states.

But look at those same states within the Electoral College (which is basically one-man-one-vote), and the pro-gun side is decisively outnumbered.

The upshot is that we’re not getting federal gun control any time soon, but the Dems may have a lock on the Presidency.

3 dead in Marine base shooting; Wayne LaPierre puzzled

When three people died in a shooting and police standoff at the Quantico Marine barracks in Virginia, Wayne LaPierre, executive vice-president of the NRA, was overheard exclaiming, “Those guys were armed. Why the hell didn’t they defend themselves?”

Pro-gun forces push back

In a doomed effort to counter possible federal gun laws, the Idaho House of Representatives has approved a measure that would make it a crime for state and local police to enforce new federal firearms restrictions. Under the bill, state or local officials who help enforce any new federal gun limits could face up to a year in prison and a maximum fine of $1,000.

Maybe Obama — if he has any guts — will send in the Screaming Eagles, like Eisenhower did.

Gayle Trotter says women need guns to protect themselves

“The D.C. lawyer and mother of six shocked many when she told a Senate hearing that guns are ‘the great equalizer’ for women—and that gun control is effectively sexist.”

That line of reasoning got me thinking: What if Matthew Shepard had had a gun? Would things have turned out differently? Maybe gays everywhere should get themselves some assault rifles so they can fight back.
