Karen Handel, Susan G. Komen’s Anti-Abortion VP, Drove Decision To Defund Planned Parenthood

The Huffington Post has an interesting article about Karen Handel’s role in the Susan G. Komen fiasco (spoiler alert: Handel was much more active than Komen has admitted).

But the article quotes Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush’s former Press Secretary who’s now working for Komen, saying “Komen is a great group, but politically speaking, they’re no match for Planned Parenthood.”

What a liar! He tries to make Panned Parenthood sound like it’s so politically powerful, when the backlash came totally from the grassroots.

In fact, Komen is the group with the heavy-hitting connections:

  • CEO — Nancy Brinker, George W. Bush ambassador
  • Senior Vice President for Public Policy — Karen Handel, Georgia Republican candidate for Governor and former staffer in George H.W. Bush administration
  • Public Relations — Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush Press Secretary

For making shit up (but that’s what he was hired to do), Ari Fleischer can Bite Me!
