40 percent of millennials favor restrictions on speech that is offensive to minorities

More than any other generation, Millennials are militant about the use of offensive language towards minorities, and are rejecting the idea of a blanket right to “free speech.” A Pew report published on Friday revealed that 40 percent of Millennials in America (aged 18 to 34) were in favor of the government limiting hateful speech offensive to minorities.

The First Amendment was written by old white men to protect the privileges of old white men like themselves. It’s time to fuck that white privilege and support the rage of oppressed women and minorities.

Beware the gentry: they don’t like your music!

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in West Oakland received a cease-and-desist letter from the city threatening them with $500 a day in fines plus a $3,500 nuisance fee, CBS San Francisco reports. Church members believe the sudden complaints about the choir are due to the fact the area is becoming gentrified.

When the rich techies move in, you’d better abide by their standards. One local Yuppie commented:

I paid good money for a 3000 square foot house in an underdeveloped neighborhood. All I’m trying to do is improve the community by getting the riffraff out. Hell, if they’re not making in the mid-six figures, they have no business being here anyway. Besides, after I put in a 70-hour week at the office, I’m entitled to party hearty on Saturday night. Then, on Sunday morning, I usually wake up with a massive hangover and have to put up with these idiots and their awful “gospel” music. If they won’t keep it down, we’ll get City Hall to chase them the fuck out of here.

Oath Keepers plan to arm 50 black Ferguson demonstrators with AR-15 rifles and dare cops to shoot

The Oath Keepers are an anti-government group that claims they’re defending the U.S. Constitution. Big whoop.

But when they announce that they will arm blacks in Ferguson, Missouri, that’s when I get interested. Apparently they believe that the Second Amendment is not just for white people.

What’s wrong with Alice Goffman’s book on crime?

Since her book “On the Run” was published, the author has achieved a measure of fame that is rare for a young sociologist, but she now faces criticism over her facts and methods.

Alice Goffman’s book about low-income black men and their interactions with the police, On the Run: Fugitive Life in an American City, was published last year to glowing reviews. Now the shit is hitting the fan.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. The Oprah Syndrome. Oprah frequently fell in love with supposedly non-fiction books which struck a responsive chord with her, only to find later that they were just made up. There is little doubt that some of the early encomia for Goffman’s work were by people who fell victim to the Oprah Syndrome.
  2. Schadenfreude. Now that Goffman has been built up, our jealousy is satisfied by tearing her down. If it weren’t for Schadenfreude, we here at Biteme.me would have nothing to live for.
  3. Steven Lubet, a law professor at Northwestern University, has raised the question of whether Goffman technically committed a crime during her six years of hanging with the black underclass of Philadelphia. For this, Lubet got himself prominently mentioned in the New York Times, which is more than than can be said for the ink-stained wretches here in the BiteCastle.
  4. Goffman wrote that she learned from Philadelphia police officers that officers visiting hospitals regularly run the names of patients and visitors through criminal databases, arresting those with outstanding warrants. Law professor James Forman has queried public defenders and civil rights lawyers in Philadelphia and found no one who could confirm Goffman’s account. This at least raises a serious question about the accuracy of Goffman’s reporting.
  5. The Times says that “some sociologists counter that ethnography is concerned not just with facts but with people’s perceptions of those facts, which powerfully shape their behavior and experience.” Sure, but if Goffman reports her subjects’ perceptions as if they were facts not perceptions, she’s engaging in polemics, hagiography, homiletics . . . or fiction.
  6. While we’re at it, the Times refers to “some sociologists” without naming which ones. Cute maneuver, there. By proximity, they imply that they’re referring to Philip Cohen, a sociology professor at the University of Maryland. But maybe not. Maybe they just pulled “some sociologists” out of their ass.
  7. Lastly, the Times attributes to ethnographer Victor Rios the opinion that Goffman’s focus on “outrageous criminal exploits” gives a distorted picture. But the Times only quotes three words out of Rios’ mouth: “outrageous criminal exploits.” They made up the rest.

Since everyone turns to the Bitemaster for guidance on how to think about such Important Issues, here’s our take:

  • Alice Goffman has written one hell of an interesting book.
  • There are some questions about its reliability.
  • As usual, the Times muddies the waters.
  • Other than that, you’re on your own, kiddies.

WTF? New KKK is open to Blacks, Jews, gays

As God is my witness, I think someone is pulling my leg here. But the Christian Science Monitor says:

That’s right. According to reports, one of Montana’s most well-known white supremacists has re-branded his branch of the KKK to reflect what he says is the future of the organization. John Abarr’s new Rocky Mountain Knights is diversifying its message and its membership and is now recruiting minorities.

It seems this story is all over the Main Stream Media, so maybe it’s true?

KKK not interested in African-American members

The Klan has recently been distributing recruiting flyers in many places, including Katy, Texas. There, the flyers urged recipients to “join the fight to protect U.S. borders.”

Damian Neveaux, who is African-American, received a flier and called the number because he, too, was concerned about border security. He reached a Klan representative who told him he would not be allowed to join.

“The only way you can become a member is if you’re 100 percent Caucasian,” Neveaux recalled the Klan member telling him, according to KPRC-TV of Houston. “This flier wasn’t meant for you.”

Shucks. The Bitemaster is pretty pale, but who among us really can be sure they have no African blood in them?

Republicans fight to get more white kids on welfare

After years of worrying that African-Americans suffer from the negative effects of welfare dependance, the RINO-controlled House Appropriations Committee has done a complete about-face and passed a budget bill that directs more nanny-state school lunch funding to the white children of the Appalachian region.

BiteMe applauds the RINOs for their new “welfare is good for you” stance. Huzzah!

Flawed “stop and frisk” policy in New York City

Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch says “What gets lost many times in the quiet of a court room is that New York City police officers are trained observers who are skilled in spotting illegal weapons.”

So how good are these trained observers? A detailed ACLU analysis of police data reveals that less than 2% of those stopped actually had weapons. No wonder the NYPD refused to divulge the data — in violation of the state’s Freedom of Information law — and a court had to compel them to do so.

Other scathing reports have come from the Vera Institute of Justice, the New York State Attorney General, and the Center for Constitutional Rights.

Not only is “stop and frisk” of dubious constitutionality, it just doesn’t work.

Dame Edna Everage — nominated for Biteme Person of the Year (for 2003)

In 2003, Barry Humphries’ character, Dame Edna, made some snarky remarks about Spanish which raised a huge stir, including a denunciation by actress Selma Hayek.

When Dame Edna was questioned about the controversy on the eve of her 2003 Australian tour, she retorted that Hayek’s denunciation was due to “professional jealousy”, and that Hayek was envious because the role of painter Frida Kahlo (for which Hayek received an Oscar nomination) had originally been offered to Edna.

ProEnglish Group Has Trouble Writing Proper English

You’re not going to be surprised to learn that an English-as-the-official-language group is having trouble with their spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Mind you, your Bitemaster does not think that having an official language is always a bad thing, but when it’s promoted by a bunch of racists, he proclaims, “Bite me!”
