Make Lawmakers Wear Logos Of Financial Backers On Clothing, Like In NASCAR

This comes from a petition on the White House4 website:

“Since most politicians’ campaigns are largely funded by wealthy companies and individuals, it would give voters a better sense of who the candidate they are voting for is actually representing if the company’s logo, or individual’s name, was prominently displayed upon the candidate’s clothing at all public appearances and campaign events.”

Great idea — but the logo size should be proportional to the amount of the contribution. For example, all the New York City mayoral hopefuls are taking money from pretty much the same donors, but some are getting more than others. Proportional representation would allow us to see at a glance who’s been most successful at separating the fat cats from their lucre.

Taking my advice, Subway says “Footlong” is just a name

“With regards to the size of the bread and calling it a footlong, “SUBWAY FOOTLONG” is a registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub sold in Subway Restaurants and not intended to be a measurement of length,” the chain posted on its Australian Facebook page in response to a customer’s complaint.

Which is just what I said three days ago.

Casey’s sues Subway over rights to ‘footlong’

The Subway sandwich chain is trying to trademark “footlong” and is issuing cease-and-desist letters to other companies that use the term. Some companies, such as Pizza Hut, are opposing the trademark registration.

I don’t see what the problem is — Subway’s sandwich isn’t 12″ long, it’s only 11″. I can foresee the day when I see a poster that urges me to buy a Subway footlong(TM) with an asterisk to a footnote that says “Subway’s registered trademark for it’s 11″ hero sandwich.”

Jerry Della Femina blames Obama for end of Hamptons glitterati parties

Jerry Della Femina has sold his East Hampton estate because of fear of impending tax hikes. “I’m basically the loser in Obama’s class warfare,” he fumed. “That’s what this boils down to. If Romney was elected, we would have had our parties in East Hampton this year.”

Cry me a river, asshole.

NY Daily News calls the breastfeeding baby “gross”

NY Daily News calls suckling baby "gross"

By now, you must have read about the Oreo ad with the baby latched onto a breast and a headline ‘Milk’s Favorite Cookie.’

We thought it was cheeky and cute. But some people will disagree. Ok, so maybe for them the ad was “inappropriate,” or “pandering,” “in poor taste,” “NSW” or even “objectionable.”

But how the hell did the Daily News take a breast, a baby, and a cookie and come up with “gross” ?

FTC hits robocall scammers with $30 million fine; Consumers doubt anything will change

The FTC has hit two robocall scammers Paul Navestad and Christine Maspakorn with fines of $20 million and $10 million respectively. Which is nice, I suppose, but the Do Not Call Registry has been in operation since 2008 and my telemarketing calls haven’t gone down. Have yours?
