Collection agencies can rent letterhead from some District Attorneys

Yup, debt collectors are paying hundreds of District Attorneys for the right to send their dunning letters on DA letterhead. All I want to know is whether I can do the same thing. For example:

Dear Lying Scumbag
If you don’t stop your annoying attempts to collect money that I don’t owe, I will have your sorry ass put in jail and your kids’ braces repossessed. You have been warned.

Romney camp tries to manage fallout from Libya response

Mitt can Bite Me. He implies that the embassy attacks are the result of Obama’s weakness. But under Ronald Reagan, there were attacks on our embassies in Beirut, Kuwait, Jakarta, and Rome. I’m waiting to hear Mitt denounce Reagan for his weak leadership.

Romney demonstrates foreign policy incompetence

When rioters attacked the US embassy in Egypt, embassy officials said, “We like Islam and the Prophet. Really!” When Mitt Romney heard that, he went apeshit:

“I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi, [Ed note: it wasn’t a consulate worker, but the Ambassador]” Romney said. “It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

Mitt Romney: the greatest danger to America’s security today.

If Obama is for it, Mitt Romney is against it

“It isn’t fair to say Mitt Romney doesn’t have a position on Afghanistan,” Kerry said. “He has every position. He was against setting a date for withdrawal — then he said it was right — and then he left the impression that maybe it was wrong to leave this soon. He said it was ‘tragic’ to leave Iraq, and then he said it was fine. He said we should’ve intervened in Libya sooner. Then he ran down a hallway to run away from the reporters asking questions. Then he said the intervention was too aggressive. Then he said the world was a ‘better place’ because the intervention succeeded. Talk about being for it before you were against it!”

Dylan Matthews crunches the numbers on Chicago teacher salaries

Chicago Public Schools system estimates the mean teacher salary at $74,839. Pro-union sources put the figure at $56,720, almost $20,000 less. So what’s the truth?

Washington Post data wonk Dylan Matthews says, “a fair read of the numbers suggests that $71,017 is a much more accurate estimate of what a typical Chicago public school teacher makes than $56,720.”

So there.

“They Won’t Magically Turn You Into A Lustful Cockmonster”: Chris Kluwe Explains Gay Marriage To The Politician Who Is Offended By An NFL Player Supporting It

When linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo announced his support for legalization of gay marriage, Maryland state legislator Emmett C. Burns Jr. urged Ayanbadejo’s employer to “inhibit such expressions from your employee.” Whereupon Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe gave Burns one upside the head.

The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney

‘Mitt Romney likes to say he won’t “apologize” for his success in business. But what he never says is “thank you” – to the American people – for the federal bailout of Bain & Company that made so much of his outsize wealth possible.’

Don’t believe the hype

In an article titled “It’s Becoming Clear That No One Actually Read Facebook’s IPO Prospectus Or Mark Zuckerberg’s Letter To Shareholders,” Henry Blodget sticks it to the whiners who are complaining about Facebook’s post-IPO price drop.

Good for him. Except that, as far as I can tell, he didn’t predict the fallout before it happened.
