John Haggerty legal defense fund

John Haggerty, convicted of stealing $1,000,000 of the money that Bloomberg was laundering through the Independence Party, now has a legal defense fund. The Daily News notes that it was set up by a group of ex-Pataki aides.

But the News forgot that they had written back in 2010Haggerty did not register Special Elections Operations [the front that Haggerty funneled the money through] with the state Secretary of State’s Office until Dec. 3 — a full month after the general election. The operation shares an address with an Albany consulting firm run by former Pataki administration aides.[Emphasis added]

How this all fits together is beyond me. But the connection between Haggerty and those Pataki aides is pretty clear.

Marine learns what “Commander-in-Chief” means

In 2010, Marine Sergeant Gary Stein took to Facebook to voice his displeasure with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The ACLU wrote to his commanding officer saying it strongly backed the constitutional right of military personnel to discuss and critique the government’s policies and conduct.

Apparently Stein thought that meant he could post anything about anyone, so he went and posted that he would refuse to follow orders of President Barack Obama. His defense? “There is not a document in this world that trumps the United States Constitution.”

Nice try, putz. The Constitution makes Obama your Commander-in-Chief and the Corps is now taking steps to discharge you for actions “prejudicial to good order and discipline.” If you don’t like it, you can Bite Me.

While we’re at it, the San Francisco Examiner can Bite Me, too, for their headline “Marine faces discipline for Facebook critique of Obama.” It’s not for his critique, it’s for his announcing that he will disobey orders.

If Trayvon Martin had a gun he might be alive today

It’s time to get past all this liberal gun-control shit and look at the facts: the rednecks, backed by the NRA, are arming themselves in record numbers. But law-abiding African-Americans are largely unarmed and have no way to defend themselves because they haven’t availed themselves of their Second Amendment right to carry weapons for self-defense.

Since 2005, Florida, where Trayvon was shot, has had a “Stand your ground” law. Wikipedia describes “Stand your ground” as follows:

A stand-your-ground law states that a person may use deadly force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without an obligation to retreat first. In some cases, a person may use deadly force in public areas without a duty to retreat. Under these legal concepts, a person is justified in using deadly force in certain situations and the “stand your ground” law would be a defense to criminal charges.

It’s clear that Trayvon could have defended himself against George Zimmerman, who he thought was stalking him, and been justified under Florida law.

Like the Freedom Riders of an earlier day who promoted voter registration, now is the time for brave Civil Rights activists to take buses into the south and sign up young African-Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights!

The flood that just swallowed your shore house is a hoax

“Global warming deniers can throw around all the ‘incriminating’ emails and scientific data they want, but when a flood tide swallows the Borgata it’ll be a lot harder to ignore the spectre of global climate change. Busloads of seniors floating down the parkway weighed down by rolls of quarters in their giant oversized purses would be bad PR for New Jersey’s top gaming destination. I hope Trump has flood insurance.”

It’s worse than we thought: Bloomberg police force has been infiltrating liberal political groups

According to the Huff Post: “Undercover NYPD officers attended meetings of liberal political organizations and kept intelligence files on activists who planned protests around the country, according to interviews and documents that show how police have used counterterrorism tactics to monitor even lawful activities.”

This is just whack. The CIA does domestic surveillance, the FBI does domestic surveillance, the NSA does domestic surveillance, too. But that’s not enough domestic surveillance for Bloomberg. He’s got to do his own damn domestic surveillance. Oh, just Bite Me.

Susan G. Komen board chairman gone, plus a bunch of other execs

The pain at Susan G. Komen ain’t over yet. Board chair LaSalle D. Leffall is leaving. Executives in New York, Oregon and Texas are either gone or going soon. Fundraising is down and events are being cut back. But there is good news: Karen Handel, former senior VP for Public Policy, can now help Komen return to its core mission of shutting down Planned Parenthood.

Religious leaders speak out against Paul Ryan’s “immoral” GOP budget

A number of religious leaders have denounced the Republican budget put forward March 20, 2012, by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis), House Budget Committee Chairman.

“As a constituent of Congressman Ryan and a Catholic priest, I’m disappointed by his cruel budget plan and outraged that he defends it on moral grounds,” Father Thomas Kelly, Catholic priest from Elkhorn, Wyo., said in a statement. “Ryan is Catholic, and he knows that justice for the poor and economic fairness are core elements of our church’s social teaching. It’s shameful that he disregarded these principles in his budget.”

Susan Brooks Thistlewaite, former president of Chicago Theological Seminary, said the new budget crosses “values held by Jesus of Nazareth.” Let me finish her statement for her: “and Paul Ryan can bite me.”

Does cutting taxes create jobs? Listen to your Uncle Cecil.

Slug Signorino explains Reaganomics “What arguably began as a noble effort — making U.S. income taxation fairer and more rational — has degenerated into one of the great con games of our time.. . .

“Reagan took office with a 7.5 percent unemployment rate. By September 1982 it had climbed to more than 10 percent and didn’t drop below 7 percent till halfway through his second term. From 1979 through 2004 the real after-tax income of the poorest fifth of the country rose by a paltry 9 percent, while that of the richest fifth rose by 69 percent. Over roughly the same period CEO pay rose by about 500 percent. . . .

“A string of millionaire candidates for public office has duped a good chunk of the electorate into thinking the way to create jobs and otherwise solve the problems of the middle class is to cut the taxes of the wealthy. That’s absurd. If the massive tax cuts of the Reagan era didn’t do the average worker much good, trimming another percent or two now sure won’t. What it will do is leave more money in the pockets of the comfortably affluent. . . .

“While cutting taxes sometimes may help the country as a whole, if you’re like most people, it probably won’t help you.”

New counterterrorism guidelines are like Google’s privacy policy, only creepier

“The Obama administration has approved guidelines that allow counterterrorism officials to lengthen the period of time they retain information about U.S. residents, even if they have no known connection to terrorism. . . .

“The new guidelines, which were approved Thursday by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., have been in the works for more than a year, officials said.”
