World Vision forced to back down on amazing policy towards gays

World Vision recently changed their policy on gay employees and then changed again.

The old policy was to avoid hiring gay employees. They even won lawsuits over it.

The new policy held everyone to the same standards of fidelity. Gays and straights were expected to be celibate if single, and faithful if married. It was strict, but it was fair. It brought a traditional ethic of family, valued by many Christians, to bear equally on both gay and straight employees.

After the policy change to accept gay Christians was announced, the evangelical right switched into high gear and, in effect, forced the organization to retract or lose their funding.

How sad. It sounds like World Vision really tried to do the right thing.

Photographer cannot decline to shoot lesbian wedding

“A New Mexico law forbids businesses open to the public to discriminate against gay people. Elaine Huguenin, a photographer, says she has no problem with that — so long as it does not force her to say something she does not believe.”

Your Bitemaster has no problem with blogging — or not blogging — about gay people. But he sure wouldn’t want the government to tell him which to do.

“They Won’t Magically Turn You Into A Lustful Cockmonster”: Chris Kluwe Explains Gay Marriage To The Politician Who Is Offended By An NFL Player Supporting It

When linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo announced his support for legalization of gay marriage, Maryland state legislator Emmett C. Burns Jr. urged Ayanbadejo’s employer to “inhibit such expressions from your employee.” Whereupon Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe gave Burns one upside the head.

US priests are reportedly behind Vatican crackdown on nuns

“David Gibson, a Religion News Service correspondent, said the crackdown shows that concerns about poverty and economic inequality are taking a backseat in the church. ‘There’s so much riding on the gay marriage battle, and on abortion rights, and on contraception that [bishops] want everybody in the church to be doubling down on those issues and not being distracted by social justice,’ Gibson told msnbc.com.

“Bishops have been playing defense for years in the wake of the church’s sexual abuse crisis, and Gibson said they’ve been looking for issues on which they can reassert their moral authority.”

Speaker John Boehner wants to take focus off of gay marriage. Mitt says, “Fat chance!”

House Speaker John Boehner is desperate to get attention off of gay marriage. While it was a nifty way to raise funds and stir up the core of the Republican Party, when it comes to getting the votes of undecided voters, it stinks. Unfortunately, Boehner’s candidate, Mitt Romney, went off message at a campaign stop in Oklahoma City yesterday. “I have the same view that I’ve had since running for office . . . my view is that marriage itself is a relationship between a man and a woman” quoth the Mitt.

More Americans than ever support gun rights AND gay marriage

“Compared to both 2004 and 2008, Americans are now more conservative when it comes to gun rights, but more liberal when it comes to gay marriage.

“It remains to be seen how this slightly ideological schizophrenia among Americans will affect the outcome of the presidential election.”

Doesn’t seem odd to me. It seems Libertarian.

When it comes to the Constitution, conservatives have less integrity than a $2 whore

Andrew Cohen writes in the Atlantic: “Congress has no constitutional authority to punish people who don’t want to have health insurance, Paul Clement argued last week before the United States Supreme Court. This week? The heralded attorney is arguing, to another panel of federal judges, that Congress has plenty of constitutional authority to punish people who don’t want to marry someone of the opposite sex. Last week, Clement defended states’ rights and labeled as ‘unprecedented’ the federal health care policy. This week, he says that Congress can dictate terms of a federal marriage policy over the objections of states which have legalized same-sex marriage.”

Altogether now: “Bite Me!” And our apologies to $2 whores everywhere for the unwarranted comparison to conservative attorney Paul Clement.

Santorum Thinks Same-Sex Marriage Helped Destroy the Economy

This is an actual Santorum quote from the Fall of 2011:

“If you think that we can be a society that kills our own, and that disregards the family and the important role it plays, and doesn’t teach moral values and the important role of faith in the public square, and then expect people to be good, decent and moral when they behave economically, if you look at the root cause of the economic problems that we’re dealing with on Wall Street and Main Street I might add, from 2008, they were huge moral failings. And you can’t say that we’re gonna take morality out of the public square, morality out of our schools, God out of our schools, and then expect people to behave decently in a country that requires, capitalism requires some strong modicum of moral consciousness if it’s gonna be successful.”
