Missouri  Governor Jay Nixon has consistently and repeatedly vetoed and cut funding for the state’s public defender system, forcing it into such a state of financial disrepair that it currently ranks second to last in the entire country.

So Michael Barrett, the director of the Missouri State Public Defender System, invoked Section 600.042.5 of the Missouri Revised Statutes and appointed Governor Jay Nixon as defense counsel:

[T]o ensure that poor people who face incarceration are afforded competent counsel in their defense, I hereby appoint you, Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon, Bar No. 29603, to enter your appearance as counsel of record in the attached case.

Donald Trump Would Push Debt To Highest Level In U.S. History, Report Says

Making America great again — by running up huge IOUs.

You could read the report from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget or their executive summary or the synopsis at Huffington Post, but you’re a Biteme reader and want it reduced to “25 words or less,” so here goes:

Hillary Clinton’s policies are fiscally risky, but no riskier than where we’re currently heading. Trump’s policies will drive us zooming over the cliff. Yee haw!

On fiscal cliff . . . we’re so screwed

According to this HuffPo article (On Fiscal Cliff, Republicans Wait For Action From Obama, Democrats.), we’ll need Republican votes to pass a budget that would avert the fiscal cliff.

In the House, Speaker John Boehner can’t deliver those votes; and in the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell doesn’t dare to because he’s anticipating a Tea Party challenge for his seat in the next election.

This does not bode well.

Gov. Christie should tell his own party the truth on federal budget

A Star-Ledger editorial says: “[W]hat’s missing from Christie’s critique [of Obama’s budget proposal] is the hard truth that no debt deal is possible until Republicans agree to significant tax increases as part of it. In the end, the political challenge is clear: We need Democrats who are willing to cut spending, especially in entitlement programs, and we need Republicans who are willing to raise taxes, especially on the wealthy.”

In other words, both parties can Bite Me. Christie can Bite Me, too, because he should know better than to “take shots at Obama and walk away. He needs to tell the hard truths to his own party. And when it comes to solving the debt problem, that has to include tax increases.”

And the Star-Ledger can also bite me. Their editorial is about the national debt. But their headline is about the deficit: “Gov. Christie should tell his own party the truth on national deficit.” Shame on them for getting the two mixed up.
