PR firm Porter Novelli realizes they were hired by THAT Indiana

Global PR firm Porter Novelli was recently engaged by the state of Indiana to try to undo the damage done by the state’s passage of a Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Act was intended to legalize discrimination against gays, lesbians, and anyone else that Hoosiers think are “icky.”

The firm will get an initial $2 million for their services with more later if the job requires it. Which it will.

When asked about their new client, firm CEO Karen van Bergen said, “Shit, you mean it’s that Indiana? The one that stepped in the poo on the gay thing? We’re fucked — just totally fucked.”

Lobbyist won’t drink the Kool-aid!

Dr. Patrick Moore, a  Monsanto lobbyist, claimed in a recent interview that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide is safe for humans to drink. “You can drink a whole quart of it and it won’t hurt you,” he says. But when offered a glass of the stuff by the interviewer, Moore turns it down, saying “I’m not stupid.”

Hey, Pat! Here’s a tip that all the old PR hands will tell you: Either don’t claim one can safely drink a quart of the client’s weed killer or swig down the glass with a smile.

Lobbyist claims Monsanto weed killer is safe to drink, then bolts when TV host offers him a glass.

Liberals can’t write a decent headline

So the Bitemaster was perusing the home page of the Fiscal Policy Institute, home to a bunch of liberal economists. Some of the headlines there were:

  • Examining the Final Report of the Pataki/McCall Commission
  • New Report Examines Shale Drilling Impact
  • Immigration Reform 2013-14: Will Comprehensive Reform Bring More Jobs for Americans?

Snoozeville!

Now compare some headlines from the American Enterprise Institute:

  • Potholed U.S. roads are a creation of Washington
  • How Obamacare kills jobs
  • Still exceptional: Liberals want to evade the responsibilities of American exceptionalism

Now those are some hot headlines!

Israelis claim new documentary as their own; directors start whining

In a genius PR move, the Israeli embassy has announced that “5 Broken Cameras, ” an Oscar-nominated documentary on Israel’s settlement expansion on the West Bank, is an Israeli film. In response, directors Emad Burnat (a Palestinian, whatever that means) and Guy Davidi (Israeli) claim “This is a Palestinian documentary” and that Israel is trying to use it “to show the good face of Israel.”

Those who demonize Israel can just Bite Me already.

Denny’s Obamacare Surcharge Stirs Big Mess For Restaurant Chain

Denny’s franchisee John Metz raised a big stink earlier this month when he said he’d impose a 5% surcharge to pay for Obamacare. As a result, other Denny’s franchisees were getting angry phone calls and threats of boycott. They were not happy campers, so the head of Denny’s distanced the corporation from Metz’s action and prevailed on him to retract.

But Judith Thorman, the International Franchise Association’s senior vice president for government relations and public policy, is sticking by Metz: “I hope people still have ability in this country to speak out on the impact of public policy issues on their businesses . . . That’s all they’re really trying to do is to say this policy will have a dramatic economic impact. We may not all agree, but I think it’s good if everyone comes forward with their opinion, and that we have a dialogue on it.”

Bless her heart.

In the interest of furthering a dialogue on a public policy issue important to franchise owners, we sent the following message to Ms. Thorman:

Dear Ms Thorman,

I publish a small blog called BITEME.ME (http://www.biteme.me). I read that you believe “it’s good if everyone comes forward with their opinion, and that we have a dialogue on it.” Good for you! I’d like to begin by asking where your members stand on reducing the minimum wage. Wouldn’t you agree that it would reduce unemployment and have a positive impact on your industry?

Thanking you in advance,
Ploni ben Ploni, Editor
