Mayor Michael Bloomberg says shortage of affordable housing is a “good sign”

‘On the topic of those struggling to find affordable housing in his city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is quick to find the silver lining.

‘ “Somebody said that there’s not enough housing. That’s a good sign,” he argued during his weekly Friday morning radio sit-down with WOR’s John Gambling.

‘Mr. Bloomberg, a billionaire who lives in a multi-million-dollar townhouse on the Upper East Side, said the high demand means the city is on the right track.’

And somewhere Joe Lhota is wondering why he didn’t think of it first.

ProEnglish Group Has Trouble Writing Proper English

You’re not going to be surprised to learn that an English-as-the-official-language group is having trouble with their spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Mind you, your Bitemaster does not think that having an official language is always a bad thing, but when it’s promoted by a bunch of racists, he proclaims, “Bite me!”

5 NYC mayoral candidates take on Rev. Al Sharpton’s challenge, spent last night in public housing

Actually, I’m glad they did. Keeping the pols in touch with the lives of the constituents is a good thing. Kind of like Bloomberg riding the subway.

Come to think of it, it would have been nice if Hizzoner had spent the night in public housing, too.

On the other hand, there are no easy answers when it comes to poverty. According to the Post, NY food stamp recipients are shipping welfare-funded groceries to relatives in Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Citi Bike stations moved to make way for limousines

‘[New York City] has quietly removed at least 10 Citi Bike stations since May, The Post has learned — including racks at Barry Diller’s IAC Building in Chelsea, a Midtown East condo that’s home to millionaires and a West Soho co-op where a “Mad Men” star lives.’

Plutocrats arrive at Hamptons fundraisers with advice for Mitt Romney

The rich were out in force to support Mitt . . .

‘A New York City donor a few cars back, who also would not give her name, said Romney needed to do a better job connecting. “I don’t think the common person is getting it,” she said from the passenger seat of a Range Rover stamped with East Hampton beach permits. “Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them.

‘ “We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.” ‘

Making Harlem safe for the yuppies

“When Ruthann Richert heard that a wine and liquor store was coming to Lenox Avenue and 119th Street, in the Mount Morris Park historic district where she has lived for 25 years, she had visions of wine tastings with her neighbors.

“Instead, her jaw dropped when she saw workers installing walls of bulletproof plexiglass behind which the sales people and all the alcohol would be encased. And then came the large red neon “Wine & Liquor” sign with a shiny metal back plate and a giant yellow and red vertical ‘Liquor’ sign.”

Good news: The owner of the liquor store gave in to community complaints that the facade reminded them of the “ghetto” and removed the bulletproof glass.

Bad news: The place was broken into twice in the same week by a group of thieves who made off with cash and alcohol.
