On Punching Nazis

Apparently, American Nazi Richard Spencer got punched out the other day. And, apparently, this became some huge Internet meme without my being aware of it. Maybe I need to spend more time on Facebook or Twitter or 4chan so I can keep up.

Anyway, Ken White has written up why punching Nazis is a Bad Idea. It’s definitely worth reading. After you finish that, read up on Vidal Sassoon and the 43 Group.

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble

According to the Wall Street Journal (1/27/2016), the student loan market is starting to heat up.

It’s good news for big financial institutions, which expect to make a mint when Trump lets the private sector take over a larger portion of the student loan biz.

Of course, we’re already on the hook for about a trillion dollars in loans — money that we’re unlikely to ever see again.

Part of the cause is that, when the government throws money at something — like college tuition — prices inevitably go up. Just like housing prices rose during the 2001-2005 housing bubble (thanks largely to Bill Clinton. Andrew Cuomo and George W. Bush’s policies of promoting home ownership by minorities).

While I’m waxing eloquent on economics, I’ll explain why the housing bubble burst: The Federal Reserve raised its interest rate from mid-2004 to mid-2006. In 2006, housing prices started to decline. That led to the subprime mortgage crisis. By December 2007, we were in the midst of a recession. Q.E.D.

Trump Urges Spy Agencies to Lay Off Russia and Focus on Threat Posed by Actresses

Calling the recent allegations against Russia a “witch hunt,” Trump told intelligence chiefs that their investigations of Putin were distracting them from “America’s real enemy.”

. . . The President-elect also complained that, under President Barack Obama, actresses have been allowed to operate with impunity. “Barack Obama is basically the founder of actresses,” he said.

Counter-Sting Catches James O’Keefe Comrade

The stinger gets stung. A left-wing political group released a new video Monday of a counter-sting that has uncovered evidence of right-wing activists trying to sow chaos at Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremony, an effort to portray critics of Trump who march against him as violent fringe figures.

Gamergate Showed How to Kneecap a Website. Now This Group Is Trying to Do the Same to Breitbart.

Hurting Breitbart is an attractive idea, I suppose. But Breitbart is scheduled to be replaced by the White House Press Secretary anyway, so why bother.

NYC website to track snow plow service sucks but at least cheaper than under last mayor

A city website to keep track of snow plow service is a blizzard of inaccurate information, a peeved councilman charged Sunday.

Bad news: the website sucks.

Good news: it cost the City hundreds of millions less than it would have under Bloomberg.
